Job Description

PACS and IT Administrator – Hospital-Based Radiology Practice

Location: Hybrid remote and on-site in southeast Florida (Miami/Broward area)
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Executive Director & Executive Committee (Physicians)

About Us

We are a growing, hospital-based private radiology practice providing 24/7 diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, and neurointerventional surgery services across multiple hospitals in Florida. As our clinical footprint expands, we are seeking an experienced PACS and IT Administrator to support our imaging operations, optimize radiologist workflow, and serve as a critical liaison between our group and hospital IT departments. Our current imaging volume is 750k imaging studies per year across six hospitals within a single health system.

We will be launching our own cloud-based AI-supported PACS in early 2026 that will sit on top of the hospitals' PACS. The hospital system's PACS will remain the system of record. This PACS Admin will lead the implementation of this project.

Prior experience with PACS conversions, third-party interfaces, HL7 interfaces,k and hardware/software installs and maintenance is preferred. While all qualified candidates will be considered, preference will be given to applicants living locally in southeast Florida.

Position Summary

The PACS and IT Administrator is responsible for the daily management, maintenance, and optimization of picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), imaging modalities, and associated hardware/software infrastructure. This role ensures seamless imaging workflows, supports clinical efficiency, and manages upgrades, deployments, and integrations—including new PACS installations—as our practice expands.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, hands-on experience implementing or migrating PACS platforms, and excellent communication skills for coordinating with radiologists, technologists, hospital IT teams, and third-party vendors.

The PACS Administrator will also oversee training for new (internal) radiologists and new (external) hospital radiology technologists.

Key Responsibilities

PACS Administration & Support

  • Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot PACS, hospital interfaces, workstations, servers, and related infrastructure.
  • Oversee image routing, DICOM configuration, HL7 interfaces, and workflow rules.
  • Monitor system performance, storage utilization, uptime, and application logs to ensure top performance.

New System Implementations

  • Lead setup, testing, configuration, and go-live support for new PACS platforms, viewer technologies, and workflow tools.
  • Coordinate with hospital IT, modality vendors, and the radiology group during upgrades, migrations, and hardware installations.
  • Conduct acceptance testing and ensure all integrations (modalities, VR, worklists, cloud archives, etc.) are functioning properly.

Liaison & Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the radiology group and hospital IT/PACS teams.
  • Attend hospital meetings, participate in workflow planning, and represent the radiologists' operational interests.
  • Translate radiologist needs into technical requirements and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Provide end-user support and training to radiologists and clinical partners as needed.

Infrastructure Management

  • Support workstation deployment, hardware configuration, GPU considerations, network connectivity, and VPN access.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance, system backups, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Collaborate with vendors on service tickets, escalations, and long-term system enhancements.

Training & User Support

  • Provide training sessions for physicians, radiologists, and staff on PACS functionality.
  • Develop user guides and training materials for new PACS programs.
  • Offer ongoing support and guidance to ensure efficient system use

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • 3+ years of experience as a PACS Administrator in a hospital or high-volume imaging environment.
    • Hands-on experience with PACS configuration, DICOM, HL7, networking fundamentals, and workflow setup.
    • Experience implementing or migrating PACS solutions (e.g., Synthesis, Visage, Sectra, Philips, GE, Intelerad, Change/BSW, New Lantern, etc.).
    • Strong hardware knowledge: workstation builds, server components, GPUs, image display calibration, VPNs, and networking basics.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with radiologists, technologists, and hospital IT staff.
    • Strong documentation skills and comfort managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Preferred:
    • Relevant technical certifications (CPAS, CIIP, A+, Network+, MCSE, etc.).
    • Experience with radiologist workflow optimization, cloud archives, or AI decision-support tools.
    • Knowledge of cybersecurity protocols and HIPAA requirements.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Full benefits package including employer-paid health insurance
  • Opportunity to help shape and build new PACS workflows across a growing radiology enterprise
  • Collaborative, mission-driven environment with direct impact on patient care quality
  • Stable, physician-owned practice with a strong reputation in the community
