Job Description:

The Inpatient Facility Coder will support acute care and trauma-level hospital facilities by accurately coding and abstracting inpatient medical records. This role operates in a fully remote environment and follows established productivity and quality standards. Coders receive support from dedicated coding coordinators and leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient facility encounters
  • Perform full abstraction of complex and high-acuity inpatient charts
  • Meet productivity benchmarks supported by predictive coding tools
  • Review select cases for accuracy, compliance, and quality initiatives
  • Participate in ongoing education, audits, and team meetings
  • Maintain coding credentials and adhere to regulatory guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of inpatient facility coding experience
  • Experience with acute care and trauma-level inpatient facilities required
  • Strong ability to independently abstract complex inpatient records
  • CCS or RHIA strongly preferred; AHIMA or AAPC credentials accepted
  • Exposure to Cerner, Epic, or Meditech EMRs preferred
  • Detail-oriented, quality-driven, and metrics-focused

  • Average productivity expectation of approximately 2.2 charts per hour
  • Flexible but consistent schedule required
  • Weekly check-ins with leadership for ongoing support
  • Union-affiliated facilities available for interested candidates
  • Multiple openings due to increased volume and growth
  • Resume stability preferred; contract experience accepted if clearly noted
