Job Description

Meadow Lane is a gourmet prepared foods market focused on organic, high-quality culinary offerings. Our store will carry an expansive menu of delicious prepared foods made fresh from our on-site kitchen. All menu items will be available grab-and-go style, to fit the fast pace of NYC while satisfying New Yorkers’ needs for delicious, healthy, and nutritious food in a beautiful environment.

Our partnerships with local, sustainable farms will bring a variety of fresh farm produce under one roof, saving our shoppers a trip to the farmers market and connecting more small farms with the NYC customer. Our beverage program consists of a coffee, tea, and matcha bar, organic smoothies, and a menu of organic juices. Fresh pastries and other sweet and savory treats will be available for takeaway.

Meadow Lane will stock a curated assortment of snacks and dry goods brands, along with household staple items. We have selectively chosen brands in a handful of categories to bring exclusive collaborations to Meadow Lane. In our floral studio, bespoke specialty floral arrangements will be designed each day for custom orders, events, hospitality and fashion partnerships, and weekly floral house accounts.

Line and Prep Cook – Roles and Responsibilities

Meadow Lane is seeking experienced, passionate Prep Cooks to join our kitchen team. Our prepared foods program is central to the Meadow Lane experience—offering beautiful, flavorful, and nutritious dishes made fresh daily using high-quality, organic, and locally sourced ingredients. This role is ideal for culinary professionals who are detail-oriented, skilled in execution, and dedicated to excellence in both flavor and presentation.

We are building a team that takes pride in culinary craftsmanship, thrives in an organized and fast-paced kitchen, and shares our commitment to hospitality, integrity, and consistency.

  • Prepare ingredients and dishes according to established recipes, kitchen prep lists, and Meadow Lane standards.
  • Execute daily production tasks with precision and care to support full-service operations and grab-and-go offerings.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked prep station throughout the shift.
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients to prevent spoilage and maintain quality.
  • Visually inspect and taste food before service to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to standards.
  • Work closely with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and team to maintain pace and flow of service.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health code regulations (DOH, OSHA, etc.).
  • Assist with receiving, inspecting, and storing deliveries as needed.
  • Keep kitchen equipment, tools, and surfaces clean and sanitized at all times.
  • Collaborate with kitchen and retail teams to ensure accurate inventory and timely restocking.
  • Uphold and represent Meadow Lane’s culinary values in every dish and every shift.
  • Attend all scheduled shifts, meetings, and required trainings.

Minimum Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in a professional kitchen, ideally in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong knife skills and familiarity with both classic and modern cooking techniques.
  • Deep understanding of ingredient handling, kitchen organization, and recipe execution.
  • Proven ability to work cleanly, efficiently, and with precision.
  • Comfort working in high-volume settings while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-first mindset.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Passion for seasonal, organic ingredients and a shared commitment to Meadow Lane’s mission.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing 8 hours per shift.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling.
  • Use of kitchen tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, blenders, ovens, etc.
